1. What is the Air Activity Centre?

The Air Activities Centre was established in 1971 as an extension of normal Scouting activities for young people to experience the thrill of real flying and learn the fundamentals of flight.

The Air Activities Centre is owned and managed by Scouts Australia New South Wales Branch. All flying activities carried out by the Air Activities Centre are conducted as private flying operations. All participants share in the costs. The Centre operates under the rules and regulations of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

2. How safe is flying at Camden Air Activities Centre?

The Air Activities Centre has operated for over 40 years. Our commitment to safety is reflected by our highly trained staff, pilots, instructors, management system, maintenance and aircraft.

Our focus on safety ensures that each pilot is reviewed by a Senior Instructor every 90 days, maintaining safety standards that exceed Civil Aviation Safety Authority requirements for pilot checking.

3. What Aircraft will I fly in?

The Air Activities Centre operates 4 Cessna C172 .

4. Who will fly the Scout Aircraft?

A select group of experienced pilots are appointed by the Chief Flying Instructor and the Centre Manager to fly Air Activities.

Selection criteria for pilots include flying experience, competency, and communication skills.

5. What parents and Leaders need to know!

Your Group must arrive by 8:30am for all Air Activities

We suggest packing lunch, picnic blanket, sunscreen, and hats there are BBQ and picnic facilities available.

On arrival, the Leader will be asked to complete a flight manifest of each person flying and participating.

To be able to fly in the 4 seater aircraft, the group will be spilt into subsets of 3 people.

We suggest organising games or other activities to entertain your group while waiting to depart. There is adequate space available for wide games.

The Air Activities Centre will roster one Pilot In Charge, with additional supporting pilots and ground flight crew and reception officer to suit the numbers booked for the day.
