Last weekend, we were thrilled to welcome 25 participants from 2nd Panania and 1st Padstow Heights to the Scouts NSW Air Activity Centre (AAC) for a full day of hands-on aviation fun and learning.
The day began with a heartfelt moment during the opening parade as Rod presented Robyn and Ian Mogg’s 15-Year Service Award—a particularly touching tribute following Ian’s passing last year. Their legacy of service to the Scouting movement continues to inspire everyone at the AAC.
With perfect flying conditions, the Scouts fleet of Cessna 172’s took to the sky for 7 flights over the beautiful Warragamba Dam and the new Western Sydney International Airport site. Big thanks to our pilots Rod, Rolf, and Marco for sharing their joy of flight and giving our Scouts an unforgettable experience in the air.
Back on the ground, Scouts enjoyed an airside tour of Camden Airport led by Oliver, where they explored how the airport operates, got up close with light aircraft, and learned about features of the airport. The groups asked some fantastic questions about Air Traffic Control, the new Western Sydney International Airport, and aircraft design.
A big shoutout to our ground crew—Leon, Rose, Tim, Yehuda, Byron, Ethan, Monte, Charlie, and Robyn—for keeping everything running smoothly and safely throughout the day. Special thanks to Leon for supporting Yehuda, Byron, and Monte on their first day volunteering at the AAC.
The day wrapped up with a creative yet highly competitive glider building session led by Tim, where the groups put their newfound aviation knowledge to the test in a spirited fly-off!
A huge thank you to everyone involved for a safe, smooth, and soaring day of aviation adventure.
