Itinerary:

Youth members are introduced to the exciting world of aviation:

Aircraft Pre-Flight Inspection
An up-close inspection of all the various components of the Scouts Cessna 172 aircraft that you will fly in, will be provided by your Scout Activity Leader pilots. This is your chance to ask all those questions you always wanted to ask!

Live-Airside Tour
Step onto the active side of your airfield where all the action happens. Our ground safety crew will discuss with you and guide you past the various features of your airfield which may include taxi‐ways, aeroplane hangars, different types of aircraft and helicopters, refuelling station and depending on the aerodrome, control tower and emergency services hangars.

Build and Fly a Glider
After the aerodrome Live-Airside Tour supervised by your very knowledgeable AAC volunteers that will provide you with an understanding of the different types, design and parts of an aircraft,  your Group will design and build a glider from observations taken and commentary by the AAC volunteers.

Then join in and enjoy a fly-off competition with your completed glider.

Activity Flight
The eagerly awaited highlight of the day!

Collect your boarding pass and take‐off in one of Scouts Australia’s own aeroplanes. With your own headset, each passenger can listen-in to your pilot as they communicate with air traffic control and other aircraft. The flight will take you on a scenic journey way above the surrounding landscape before returning to land at your local airfield. In flight, your pilot will provide a commentary and explanation of aircraft controls and procedures when possible. The flight usually takes around 25 minutes.

Planning
Please try to plan with your group(s) well in advance to give us time to work through the various logistics of positioning the Scout aircraft at your nearest available airfield and managing the Air Activity day (or full weekend) for you. We have specific volunteer Activity Leaders experienced as ‘Country Air Activity’ coordinators to assist with all the details for making your local Air Activity a huge success ! Costings will be finalised once all requirements are known.

This is truly a unique Scouting event that will leave your group inspired to discover more about the exciting world of aviation. All Air Activity Centre staff pilots are fully qualified and recognise that safety is of the utmost importance.

Activity Flights are run as a private cost-share operation where all occupants of the aircraft including the pilot, pay an equal share of the cost of the flight. A component of the day’s fee will go towards the Activity Flight.

Take up the challenge and dare to do something different!

“Flying hands-on, high up in the sky, was a wonderful experience!”

– Scout Leader
